Governance and School Administration Department
Governance
Through the standards guide Supporting Strong First Nation Education Governance, created in conjunction with representatives and specialists from FNEC-member communities during the course of the 2013-2014 fiscal year, the governance department supports capacity building in education governance at the local and regional levels in several priority areas to ensure that a quality education system to support the success of our students is in place. As an expression of our inherent right to self-determination which extends beyond First Nations control of First Nations education, these governance standards are divided into nine priority areas: governance and leadership; planning, performance measurement, and risk management, financial management, human resource management, information management and information technology, parental and community involvement, external relations, special education, and education staff certification. New standards will be added in the coming years in language instruction as well as infrastructure and capital management.
